Dalam berita itu ada dua perkara disebut. Pertama adalah mengenai panggilan sayang saya kepada Ernie dan satu lagi mengenai restu keluarga untuk hubungan kami.
Saya ingin menjelaskan bahawa artikel itu dikeluarkan tanpa ada sebarang sesi temu bual bersama saya. Jadi, saya sendiri tertanya-tanya mengenainya, katanya kepada Harian Metro.

Mengenai berita keluarga merestui hubungan kedua-dua mereka, Syamel sendiri terkejut apabila ibunya bertanya kepadanya mengenai hal itu.

Saya tak mahu keluarga kami rasa tak selesa dengan adanya berita sebegitu, katanya.
Tambahnya, kalau benar mereka menjalinkan hubungan lebih daripada sekadar kawan, dia dan Ernie sudah akan berkongsi mengenainya.

Syamel bagaimanapun tidak mahu perkara itu mengganggu konsentrasinya dan Ernie untuk melakukan persiapan menjelang Anugerah Juara Lagu 32 (AJL32) yang akan berlangsung Ahad ini.
Saya tahu, semakin dekat dengan AJL, mesti akan ada lebih banyak kontroversi dan cabaran buat kami.
Lebih-lebih lagi, kami pun memang banyak luangkan masa bersama untuk sesi latihan dan sebagainya. Namun, ia hanyalah atas urusan kerja, katanya.
Syamel akan bertanding untuk dua lagu iaitu Aku Cinta, duet bersama Ernie dan Lebih Sempurna secara solo.
